How to renew your Illinois esthetician license

Seven steps, one deadline. Illinois esthetician licenses expire September 30, 2027 — 349 days from today.

Do not miss the window

If the renewal period closes before you file, the online portal will not let you through. You then have to request a reinstatement application from IDFPR, which costs more and takes considerably longer than renewing on time.

In order

The seven steps

  1. Check what your license actually requires

Log in to your IDFPR account and confirm your expiration date, your license type and whether the one time requirements still apply to you. If this is your first renewal since initial licensure, continuing education is waived entirely.

  2. Book your two mandated hours first

Sexual Harassment Prevention is required every cycle, and Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Awareness once in your career. Sponsors for these are approved separately, so get them scheduled before you think about electives.

  3. Complete your remaining elective hours

Fill the balance of your 10 hours with approved elective coursework. Since the May 2025 variance these can all be completed online, at your own pace, from any approved sponsor.

  4. Save every certificate

Download each certificate of completion and store it somewhere you will still find it in two years. You do not upload these at renewal, but IDFPR can request proof and the burden of producing it is yours.

  5. Renew through the IDFPR online portal

The renewal window opens roughly two to three months before expiration. Log in, work through the renewal application, answer the attestation questions confirming you have completed your continuing education, and submit.

  6. Pay the renewal fee

The fee is $50 for the two year period. Keep the receipt.

  7. Confirm and print your renewed license

Allow a few business days for your status to update. IDFPR no longer mails paper licenses, so log back in, print yours, and post it conspicuously at your work location as required.

Where to go

Renewal happens on the IDFPR esthetician page. We are an approved CE sponsor, not the state, so we cannot look up your account or renew on your behalf — but if you are stuck on which hours you still need, email us and we will happily talk it through.

Reviewed . IDFPR moved to a new licensing system (CORE) in late 2024, so screens may differ from older guides you find elsewhere.
